GC Word on the Street #74

Between the Commonwealth Games, Festival 2018 and the many pop-up food and arts festivals, we're spoiled for options this weekend. Whether you're in Coomera, Surfers, Robina or anywhere in between, rest and relax and enjoy everything that the Coast has to offer. Watch as street artists transform Robina Town Centre or escape the games with Sanctuary Cove's chill Sunday Sesh. When it comes to food, music and fun, some things are worth travelling for.

Detour Street Art Festival | April 3-15 @ Robina Town Centre

What happens when you let street artists loose for two weeks? You get Detour Street Art Festival! A colourful two week showcase of some of the Coast's best street talent as well as internationally acclaimed artist Sofles, Detour invites you to experience paintings brought to life as they're created before your own eyes. Artists will transform formerly boring spaces inside the shopping centre into unique and quirky spaces, filling walls with bright and vibrant pieces. Sit and sip lakeside on Robina's Promenade as The Live Lawn celebrates holidays with music and cocktails, and watch as the space transforms from uniform to unique.

Sunday Sounds | April 8th @ Sanctuary Cove Marine Village

Looking to escape the Commonwealth Games, but don't want to spend the money on booking an expensive holiday somewhere else? Sunday Sessions are returning to the Sanctuary Cove Marine Village from 1pm this weekend only, and it's the perfect place to escape the madness. Explore all of the shopping that the Marine Village has to offer or pack a picnic and settle down for an afternoon of songs, with Australian singer Russell Morris set to woo us with his sweet sounds. Running from 1-5pm this weekend, it's the perfect way to escape and unwind.

Chevron Easter Fest | April 3-15 @ Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre

Can't get enough of the Games? Chevron Renaissance is throwing an insane two week party to celebrate the Commonwealth Games, and with everything from music to sword swallowing, it's bound to be a hit! Bringing in stilt walkers, sword swallowers, acrobats and more, as well as local musicians and buskers including James Diamond and Liv Heyer, Chevron will wow people every day with new and exciting activities for the entirety of the games. You'll also get the opportunity to treat yourself, with plenty of incredible food and fashion deals to keep you entertained all holidays long.

For as long as I can remember I’ve had a passion for all things creative, and so when it came time to choosing my degree it was only natural that I gravitated towards studying Creative Writing at Griffith University. I’m in my final year of University now and plan to graduate in November, but when I’m not out at University you’ll often find me curled up in some secluded corner of my house with headphones and a good book or brewing coffees down at my local Café. Occasionally you can also find me outside with my partner, family or dog, but only when the weather is warm enough. I love the rain and cold weather, but only if it’s outside and I’m inside. Born and raised on the Gold Coast, good beaches, good vibes and good company are some of my favourite things in life.
