Top 10 Taquerias

Mexican Madness

Hola amigos and amigas! It’s time for us to name and blame the Gold Coast cantinas that have made us mad for Mexican. Tacos, burritos, fajitas and margaritas; these are the goods that we’re lusting over with the passion of a fiery Spanish lover.

Wahoos Fish Taco

With an old school vibe and more surf posters than a teenage surf rat, Wahoos Fish Tacos is a Burleigh Heads icon. They have more than 10 years in the taco making business and sure know how to serve up a fishy feast. All salsas and sauces are made fresh in house and their great combo deals mean you’ll never be hungry or poor again.

California Taco

Be transported to sunny San Diego with these California inspired tacos. Your body may stay in Burleigh Heads but your taste buds will be busy travelling through the flavours of West Coast USA. These guys have all your taco, burrito and nacho needs covered but don’t go past their California Fries. Loaded with your choice of meat, avocado aioli, beans and cheese, this is nachos with a twist. So good!

Tupe Aloha

Like a Tiki rabbit hole Tupe Aloha sends us to a tropical wonderland, where we relax with Mexican inspired meals and a boozy beverage or two. The chilled out crew are great fun, the walls are packed with colourful art, and the live music plays 'til late. This is a good-vibes-only exciting place to be. Monday nights are one dollar wings and the tacos comes topped with mini-umbrellas! Best ever!

Beach Burrito

Beach Burrito has arrived in Cooly and it’s a seaside haven for all you señors and señoritas. The relaxed beachside dining has a great outdoor seating area to catch that briney afternoon breeze. Combine this with a bunch of good friends and a bucket of ice cold Coronas to make your burrito binge complete.

Bonita Bonita

Bonita by name, bonita by nature. With a fresh, modern take on classic Mexican food, Bonita Bonita is not just your average burrito bar. Tacos are transformed into culinary gems with fillings such as sangria glazed pumpkin, and tiger prawn and chorizo. The industrial style interior displays the most beautiful imagery from Mexican culture, including sugar skull art and a shrine like wall dedicated to Frida Kahlo, the woman with the original strong brow game. Over 100 different tequilas are housed at the equally pretty Bon Bon Bar and the cocktail list is as broad as the brim of your sombrero.

MexiCali Bar Y Cantina

MexiCali brings us the best bits of two taco-loving locations, Mexico and California. Serving up a whole range of yummy plates and cocktail jugs 'til late, they also have a great range of weekly specials such as the Taco Tuesdays. The back deck is a supreme Sunday session spot to enjoy some MexiCali magic, complete with live music, cocktails and a primo sunset view.

Goodness Gracias

Oh my goodness gracias, isn’t this the cutest little burrito bar you ever did see!? Located in Palm Beach, this bright yellow shop puts a smile on your face before you’ve even had your first wholesome bite. These guys are specialists in healthy fare and grab and go orders, even catering for all your phone-order requests. Not only this, but their travelling tacqueria, Pop Taco, brings nourishing nosh to events and celebrations all over the Gold Coast.

Little Mermaid

This newbie to the neighbourhood doesn’t just specialise in Mexican fare, but they get an honourable mention for their unreal Taco Tuesday nights. With three tasty tacos for $10, how could you not! This Mermaid Beach café, bar and coffee shop has coastal chill vibes aplenty, with a relaxing space, great greenery and live music for everyone to enjoy.

Miss Margarita Mexican Cantina

A beautiful and colourful tiled wall transports taco lovers to the Mexican motherland in this cosy cantina. When Emma and Greg Thompson originally opened Miss Margarita in Byron Bay they knew they were onto a good thing. Luckily for us, that good thing has migrated to Broadbeach, bringing with it their extensive menu and drinks list. Try the mezcal and tequila tasting flights to sample some good quality spirits.

Gringo Loco

Experience the Mexican that everybody’s been going loco for. This wide open space in Surfers Paradise looks out onto the water, creating the perfect spot to indulge on their huge range of tequilas, margaritas, cocktail jugs, gringo specials and tiki cocktails (hello hangover!) Never fear though ‘cos these guys have got you covered for that too. A Mexican inspired big breakfast, the Hangover Pile Up, will have you feeling fiery before you can say “holy moly guacamole!”
