Mum's The Word
Plan Your Perfect Mother's Day Out
We love Mums. They can be cool, crazy, or sometimes a little bit weird, but at the end of the day we don't know what we'd do without them (and we wouldn't exist without them). They're our role models and biggest fans, our rocks and our shoulder to cry on. They're pretty important - And they deserve to be celebrated. So we've planned the perfect Mother's Day out - With brunch dates, pamper sessions and plenty of love all mixed in, your Mum will be feeling the love this Mother's Day. But don't forget, Mum's the word!
9:30am - Breakfast
Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with treating your Mum to breakfast in bed this Mother's Day (and if that's what she likes, you better do it!), but if you're not such a great cook and you still want to start the day off well, there's no better way to do it than by treating her to breakfast out. Just make sure she can still get a chance to sleep in - Those days are rare! Elk Espresso, Bam Bam Bakehouse, Spendelove and Paddock Bakery are all popular choices for brunch if you're in central Gold Coast (look out for Paddock's limited edition Red Velvet Doughnut!), but if you live a little further South Barefoot Barista, Niche & Co or Kirramisu will all be winners. Several of these cafe's also have pretty incredible beach views, so if your Mum is a sucker for a good breakfast on the beach, they're well worth the drive!
11am - Pamper Sesh
She's awake, she's fed and she's ready to be truly treated- And what better way to treat her than by getting her pampered! Whether it's getting her hair done, getting a mani/pedi or simply getting a massage, every Mother appreciates getting pampered at least occasionally. Strip down to your swimmers and make your way through the saunas, steam rooms and spas of Burleigh's Bath House, or book yourself in for pampering at Minogue Hairdressing, Azure Spa & Fitness, Pure Indulgence or Ocean Day Spa & Salon for all your mani, pedi, hair and massage needs. Boasting just about every treat imaginable, your Mum will be feeling like royalty after any one of these!
12-5pm - Down Time
All that eating and pampering will really take it out of you, so why not take the time to sit back, relax and enjoy Mother's Day? Grab your headphones and a bite to eat and pick a good spot on the beach, or if you're feeling adventurous (and not afraid to mess up a manicure), pack your walking shoes and head off on an easy walk. Burleigh Heads is a fantastic place to enjoy both beach and rainforest views (check out their newly re-opened walk!), but if you're looking for somewhere a little quieter you can't go past Tallebudgera or Currumbin. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even book a paddle board and go for a spin in the Creek!
5pm - Wine O'clock!
It's everyone's favourite time of day - Happy hour! If you're finally worn out you can always retire at home with a home-cooked meal and her favourite bottle of bubbly, but if you're still down to party there's no better way to finish off Mother's Day (and prolong the weekend) than by heading out for Happy Hour! Sunday Sessions will be kicking off all around the Coast from 5pm, so if you're up for a night out head to Baskk, Gotham Rooftop Bar, Mr PP's or The Island Rooftop for their incredible #SundaySunsetSessions!
About the Author
For as long as I can remember I’ve had a passion for all things creative, and so when it came time to choosing my degree it was only natural that I gravitated towards studying Creative Writing at Griffith University. I’m in my final year of University now and plan to graduate in November, but when I’m not out at University you’ll often find me curled up in some secluded corner of my house with headphones and a good book or brewing coffees down at my local Café. Occasionally you can also find me outside with my partner, family or dog, but only when the weather is warm enough. I love the rain and cold weather, but only if it’s outside and I’m inside. Born and raised on the Gold Coast, good beaches, good vibes and good company are some of my favourite things in life.
